You can create your profile, which will display your name, profession, and custom avatar. On your profile, you will have access to chats amongst friends and nearby strangers alike. You can also post images of you and your friends, but only your friends will be able to see those images. If you want strangers to look at them, you will have to add them to your profile.
We use a your geolocation to detect the people closest to you using the app so that you can start chatting with strangers near you that you might not even know are there. You will be given a list of people near you, and from there you can send an invitation to start texting them or recieve on and start chatting away! If you enjoy messaging a stranger, you can add them as one of your friends and will no longer be limited by your geolocation. That way you can talk to them whenever and wherever you like. We will also provide the option to create group chats, which can range from few people to your entire apartment, college dorm, or any other condensed living space so that you can all stay connected an up to date with any local event happening near you!
We use the Google Maps API so that we keep all of your geolocation data secure and protected

Lightout began with a personal problem: Dimetrius and Marco moved to new apartments in Tempe, Arizona, yet after months of living in their new homes, they still didn't know who their neighbors were. We knocked on doors to speak to our neighbors, but many would not answer, and those who did found it to be a bit strange and were often too busy to chit chat. This gave us an idea. What would be an easy way to meet our neighbors but get passed the awkward phase of meeting them in person during inconvienent times? A social media app that could connect us with them! So, we designed Lightout which would otherwise turn unknown strangers into friendly neighbors that could lead to life-long friendships.
